trying your hand

Remember that part of your assignment for next week is to try your hand at drawing Charlie Brown, Schulz's iconic character from the much-beloved Peanuts newspaper strip.

Please bring your sketch to class next week. Also, if possible, please scan and email your sketch to me; I'd like to post them in a separate thread here online, if that would be okay...

I forgot to bring my sketchbook to class, but felt like I got the idea anyway, it was impossible for me to recreate such spontaneous pen work while having to reference another drawing. It felt like I was trying to copy a jackson pollock. Each the nuances of charlie brown's image are important, but the head was where any of my mistakes were most apparent. My page was filled with attempts at just the outer contour of his head. Its hard to know whether I was more successful with the body or whether it was just less important when compared to the head.
