    zachary here,

The need for exceptance by the comic industry towards the outside world of other artforms (the written word, graphic arts, fine arts)is sad but true. Even McCloud felt an overwhelming need to legitimize comics in comparison to other art forms. Unfortunatly this bastardization of comics is also self-perpetuating since the two biggest comic book companies seem to constantly rehash the same tired stories but with new flashy covers.

But who's really to blame? On personal level I can recall numerous times when I would state that I would like to become a comic artist and those from the fine arts community (teachers, peers and professionals) would laugh me off. I guess the comic medium has a long way to go before it has a legitimate home in the "art world".
